Mission
The mission of the Desert Disciples is to facilitate worship of our Lord Jesus Christ and to grow closer to Him and closer in fellowship through the learning and exercising of wilderness survival skills and study of the Holy Scriptures.
Description
Small groups of men and young men will be lead into the wilderness by an experienced instructor for 2 days to a week. During the time in the wilderness the group will study the Word of God and have times of prayer. The group will also study wilderness survival skills such as; shelter building, fire making, water processing, hunting, trapping, and foraging. This is not a typical men’s retreat, nor is it typical car camping that one may be used to. Many skills considered common 100 years ago have become lost on most of us. These skills should still be common knowledge. Also lost on our high paced society is solitude and simplicity. If we seek to be like Jesus we should do what He did. Many times in the Gospel our Lord went into the wilderness to get closer to the Father. This doesn’t mean that God is nearer to us in the wilderness but that we are more able to hear from Him and experience His presence when we are less distracted by the cares of this world.
